    Before even deciding to have children, do the math on what it will cost to raise even 1 child where you live and that includes cost of preschool, day care, when they enter school for 12 years and college. Another consideration is what it could cost if your only options are private school and homeschooling. I see a near future of some cities no longer offering public school education as an option. With teacher layoffs, teachers leaving in droves, overpaid, weak mismanaged boards of education, costs almost as high a private schools and parents that refuse to parent yet expect the school to raise their kids, that is a real possibility.

    Just homeschool your kids public school systems are broken. Dangerous for kids: bully, sexual assault and other things.

    • @unlistedandtwisted
      @unlistedandtwisted Час назад

      Kids that don't learn how to deal with bullying never learn how to deal with the real world (it's full of jerks that are mean to you. You learn how to deal with them in grade school...). If you don't teach your kids how to protect themselves from sexual assault, that's on YOU. That can happen ANYWHERE and most often the perpetrators are family friends/bf's of single mothers/foster kids. The media makes sexual assault at schools seem WAY WORSE than it actually IS. (Does it happen? Yes. Is it awful? Yes. Can you teach your child how to protect themselves from becoming victims? YES.) As for "other things" that's LIFE. Homeschooling is GREAT for some kids (the one's with behavorial issues that disrupt other kids ability to learn?) Most kids need to learn RESILIENCE. You learn that by going to school, where yes, they will deal with bullies, they may have to defend themselves from sexual predators, and dodge bullets. Welcome to America.

    This is already the law here in MD. It's been that way for years now. A lot of elementary schools have pre-K classes available. The first elementary school I went to did. In MD in particular, if you were born after September 4th, you had to wait until the next year to enroll in kindergarten. I'm actually surprised that didn't happen to me considering I was born on September 19th. They also changed the law by the mid to late '90s, which was around the time I started school.

    The longer the USA delays early education the more Asian nations get ahead of us. Under age 5 children are sponges capable of learning multiple languages. I have a great niece that used ASL & English by age 2. Why do we ignore our children for 5 years?

      So you think it's cool that kids were 4 for half of their kindergarten year? September 1st is a typical cutoff in most the US. Some states are pushing it to sometime in May and all of the summer kids are staying home another year.

    I’ve been hearing about this in ca for some time now but I never had kids. I think and hope this will back fire on the state once a lot of the kids turn 18 while in the junior and seniors years and start signing themselves out. Because in California an 18 years can sign themselves out and then the school will get an absent mark and lose money from the state

    This wasn’t a surprise. The current kindergarten curriculum is the old first grade, newly minted 5 year olds starting mid year when the other students have had several months of learning, is crazy. No one should be starting a new grade mid year without a compelling reason. When I first started teaching kindergarten was like preschool, so times have changed significantly. This change had to happen.

      And current HS curriculum is the same stuff my grandfather (born 1928) was getting in 6th grade etc... He still has a couple of his textbooks. They have been dumbing-down the curriculum for decades. My folks taught me to read at 3 so I was way ahead of my classmates for years. I even completed enough credits to complete HS 2 years early. They held my diploma for two years so I stayed enrolled for the cash even though I had no classes. I found out I was infertile at 14, but if I had kids they would have been homeschooled. I decided that at age 10, (I am over 40) between the BS curriculum and the bullying I endured, I never wanted my kids to deal with any of this crap.

    • @Lillybabe84
      @Lillybabe84 Час назад

      No one was starting mid year. If school started in August they were starting kids in August who wouldn't turn 5 until January. I am honestly surprised it was January 1st to begin with. Most places it's sometime in August or September. Some states are pushing the cut off into May. I do think that kids who are ready should be able to start early though.

      @@Lillybabe84 Yep, academic ability, not age should dictate start (and grade level in each subject) date for kids. If they are ready. let them start, if not, wait. Easy-peasy, kids are not cookie-cutters all the same.

    Many states already have the September 1 requirement, but I also agree that blindsiding parents and giving them only a few months to find a new childcare situation is not reasonable. There just simply are not enough providers to make this kind of last-minute switch. Plus, it's really expensive. A full-day kindergarten program was HALF of what I was paying for daycare? From an economic standpoint, there was no better option. It shouldn't be like that. Parents shouldn't have to be pushing their kids into school as early as possible to be able to afford childcare. I personally wish that I had had the resources to wait a year. My child was academically strong but was not emotionally ready for kindergarten. I honestly wish I'd just kept her in daycare and dealt with the financial mess it would have created. It would have saved us a lot of emotional turmoil. I hate that our childcare system forces parents to make those kinds of decisions. Parents should be able to just do what is best for their children without having to worry about finances, accissibility, etc.

    This is great for small business. Open a school just for 5-6 year olds. Lots of teachers who quit could open these. Also as a teacher myself, now we have kids, in ALL grades, 2 years behind because of Covid and other reasons, so making sure they are ready for kindergarten helps everyone in the child's learning community.

    I’m from Illinois, this already the law there. My eldest had to attend a third year only for us to move to Virginia where preschool is not a requirement. Now she’s bored and ahead of her whole class. I think the requirement should be August 1st since most schools start mid August.

      CT usually starts at the end of August. My daughter was in the last group of kids to enter kindergarten before this change took effect. She turned 5 in December. She was already reading when she went to kindergarten and I know she would have been so bored in preschool again. Some kids are ready for kindergarten before they’re 5, some kids are ready when they’re 5 or 6.

    This was a wild storm. My wife and I were visiting one of her childhood friends in Brookfield when the storm hit. We were sitting out in her backyard talking, and within 30 seconds the sky turned green and fast, swirling dark clouds accompanied by a thunder crash came rolling in. I said "Guys we need to go inside now" and by the time we got to the backdoor the rain was sideways. We made our way inside and watched the wind hurl branches and debris sideways across the yard like spears. Then we see someone sprinting towards the front door, bleeding, in the middle of all of this. As they approach the door we see it's a girl probably 18-20 years old that is a door-to-door saleswoman for something and was caught out in the storm, unaware of where her driver was, and without a cell phone. We hurriedly made our way to the basement, got the poor girl some bandages for her wound, and rode out the rest of the storm.
